My Review of Blocksy Theme after using it for 2 Years

I have been using Blocksy Theme for my WordPress websites since 2022. Like every other thing on WordPress, Blocksy too has its own pros and cons.

But does the Pros outweigh the setbacks?

Here is the receipt I got after purchasing Blocksy Pro. Yes, I’m a paid customer.

So you can rest assure that this is coming from someone who has used Blocksy theme along with its Pro version first hand for years.

And I have seen a lot of other WordPress themes and its features as well. So I know whether Blocksy is any different or not.

Does it stand out? Lets find it.

Speed: First Things First 💯

Personally I check the page load speed whenever I look into a WordPress theme.

I don’t want a poorly coded theme to destroy all my efforts by increasing the page load time. That’s not even the last thing I want to see.

So how does Blocksy fares in my speed test?

I took my WordPress test site and installed Blocksy Theme.

To add some load, I installed a e-commerce website template. So now its close to a e-commerce site.

The test site also had 4 plugins including Blocksy Companion, WooCommerce, Stackable and WP Forms. These are essential ones. So testing the website speed without these plugins won’t make any sense.

I ran the speed test in GT Metrix and the site loaded in just 1.3 seconds. Its good. No caching plugins, no CDN setup. Just Blocksy doing its thing.

Test site was hosted on Hostinger, which is known for affordability more than performance.

I’m sure the result would have been even better if it was tested on Cloudways or Kinsta.

Just want to let you know that hosting plays a huge role in page speed.

What makes Blocksy so fast? For starters, it’s built on modern, lightweight code.

Unlike those bloated themes that pack in a million features you’ll never use, Blocksy keeps it lean.

It uses JavaScript and React for its backend, which is fancy tech talk for “super-efficient and fast.” It also doesn’t load unnecessary resources. If you don’t use a feature, it doesn’t sit in the background eating up bandwidth.

Another thing I noticed is how well it handles images. Image optimization is a massive deal for site speed. Blocksy has built-in support for lazy loading, which means images only load as visitors scroll down.

The theme is also fully compatible with caching plugins like WP Rocket and Litespeed Cache.

I tested it with WP Rocket, and the results were jaw-dropping. The site’s performance score on Google PageSpeed Insights jumped to a 98 on desktop.

Mobile performance wasn’t far behind, hitting the mid-90s. For someone who used to see a sad 60-ish score, this felt like winning the lottery.

Blocksy is well optimized for Core Web Vitals.

You know, that thing Google’s been all about lately? Metrics like Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) are crucial for SEO, and Blocksy nails them.

I’ve tested menus, buttons, and layouts, everything works seamlessly on smaller screens.

Great Support for Gutenberg and Plugins

If you’re into Gutenberg (like me), you’ll love Blocksy. The theme feels like it was made for WordPress’s block editor. Plus, it plays nicely with plugins like Elementor, WooCommerce, and even niche ones like Tutor LMS.

Free Version Packs a Punch

Honestly, the Blocksy free version is better than some paid themes I’ve tried. It’s perfect for beginners or anyone testing the waters before going all in.

👎 Where Blocksy Falls Short?

Might Be Overwhelming for Beginners

I’ll admit, Blocksy is feature-rich. If you’re completely new to WordPress, the sheer number of options might feel like too much.

When I first explored the advanced settings, I had a “What does this even mean?!” moment more than once.

Limited Built-In Templates

While the starter sites are high-quality, the library isn’t as extensive as some other themes like Astra or Kadence.

If you’re a fan of one-click setups with endless options, this might leave you wanting more.

💰 Is Blocksy Pro Worth it? How much does it cost?

First, let’s talk about what you’re paying for. Blocksy Pro unlocks a bunch of advanced features that aren’t available in the free version.

Here are some highlights that stood out to me.

Header and Footer Builders

The free version already has a great header builder, but Pro takes it to the next level. You get sticky headers, conditional headers (yes, you can show different headers on different pages), and even customizable mobile headers.

Advanced WooCommerce Features

For those running eCommerce sites, Pro adds product gallery sliders, additional filters, and customizable cart and checkout options.

Custom Sidebars

With Pro, you can assign unique sidebars to different pages or posts. This can be a lifesaver if you run a multi-niche site.

White Labeling

If you’re a developer or manage client sites, you’ll appreciate the white-label feature. You can rebrand Blocksy so your clients see your branding instead of Blocksy’s.

Dynamic Content and Advanced Hooks

Content Blocks feature is gold if you use it in the right way. It lets you insert custom content into specific areas of your site without messing with code.

I used it to create pop-ups and display personalized CTAs for different blog categories, and the engagement boost was real.

But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for me.

Setting up conditional headers took me way longer than expected. I had to dig through the Blocksy documentation to figure it out.

It worked perfectly once I got the hang of it, but it was a reminder that some features come with a very very big learning curve.

Okay. So how much does Blocksy Pro cost?

Blocksy offers 3 different Pro plans: Personal, Business and Agency.

Personal plan has very limited number of features for WooCommerce and doesn’t provide everything the Pro version has to offer. And it allows pro version installation in only one site. I do not recommend this plan.

Business plan gives you access to use all the Blocksy Pro features on upto 10 websites. Only the white label extension isn’t covered. I don’t think everyone needs it anyway.

Agency plan gives you unrestricted access to all the features including white label extension. You can use the pro version on unlimited sites with the agency plan.

I’d recommend you to go with the Blocksy Pro Business or Agency plan based on your needs.

So, is it worth it?

In my opinion, yes. But only if you’ll actually use the features. Think about your site’s needs first.

For eCommerce or complex sites, it’s a no-brainer. For personal blogs or simple sites, you might even be fine without it.

If you’re happy with the free version and don’t need advanced features, stick with it.

Blocksy Pro is like adding premium toppings to an already great pizza. The base is solid (free Blocksy), but the extras make it even better if you’re hungry for them.

One of the best things about Blocksy is how seamlessly it integrates with WooCommerce.

From the get-go, you can tell that the theme was designed with online stores in mind.

Blocksy’s Shop Extra Pro extension comes with numerous features that can help us build an online store in a way we want using WooCommerce.

Blocksy’s flexibility shines when it comes to shop pages. Whether you want a grid layout, a list view, or even a masonry design, you can make it happen. I loved how easy it was to adjust the number of products per row and add quick-view buttons for customers.

The product pages, cart, and checkout flows are clean and user-friendly. Plus, customization options are plenty.

Speed matters in eCommerce. Nobody’s waiting for a sluggish site to load. Blocksy’s lightweight code ensured my product pages loaded fast, even with high-res images in my test site.

With more shoppers browsing on their phones these days, having a mobile-friendly design is non-negotiable. Blocksy nails this.

Filters are crucial for eCommerce, and Blocksy doesn’t disappoint. You can set up category filters and price sliders with just a few clicks.

Your customers could quickly find what they were looking for, which helps improve engagement and reduce bounce rates.

That said, it’s not perfect. There’s a steep learning curve, and the limited starter templates could leave you wanting more.

Even with the available templates, some sections are built using external plugins like Stackable and Greenshift. And it adds load.

But if you’re willing to put in the time to learn it, Blocksy can absolutely handle your eCommerce needs.

🧑‍💻 How Good is Blocksy Support?

One thing I love about Blocksy is that they don’t just rely on their ticket system.

Their knowledge base is packed with articles, and many of them have screenshots or videos.

I’d say about 80% of my issues were solved by just reading the docs or watching a tutorial.

The best support experience I had with Blocksy was when I was struggling to integrate a third-party plugin. The plugin was causing layout issues, and while technically it wasn’t Blocksy’s problem, the support team went out of their way to help.

No support system is perfect, and Blocksy has its quirks.

While their ticket-based system is solid, I’ve noticed they don’t offer live chat support. Sometimes, when you’re knee-deep in a site issue, waiting even a few hours for a reply can feel like an eternity.

So, how good is Blocksy support? Pretty good. They’re quick, knowledgeable, and genuinely care about helping their users. Sure, there’s room for improvement like adding live chat or making the documentation a bit more beginner-friendly but overall, I’ve had a positive experience.

Final Thoughts

Blocksy isn’t just another WordPress theme. It’s a powerhouse of features packed into an easy-to-use package.

From the insanely customizable headers to WooCommerce-specific tools, it’s clear the developers thought of everything. If flexibility is what you’re after, this theme has got you covered.

The pros far outweigh the cons, especially if you value performance, design flexibility, and a smooth user experience.

Sure, there’s a learning curve, and the premium version adds costs, but those feel like small trade-offs for what you’re getting.

If you’re on the fence, give the free version a whirl. Blocksy might just be the WordPress theme you didn’t know you were looking for. It was for me.
